The shell-covered façade of the Casa de las Conchas with its Gothic portal

No Ticket Needed: Entry Is Free

The Casa de las Conchas is Salamanca's public library, so there's no ticket office and nothing to book. Walk in through the main door on Calle de la Compañía during opening hours to see the entrance hall and the courtyard.

It's a working library: speak quietly, don't use flash, and leave the reading rooms to readers.

Common Questions

Hours & Entry FAQ

Do I need a ticket for the Casa de las Conchas?
No. The Casa de las Conchas is the public library of Salamanca and entry is free. There's no ticket office and no booking: just walk in during opening hours.
What are the opening hours?
Monday to Friday 9:00–21:00, Saturday 9:00–14:00 and 16:00–19:00, and Sunday and holidays 10:00–14:00 and 16:00–19:00. In summer and on some holidays the hours are shorter.
Is it open in summer?
Yes, but with shorter hours. From July to early September the library has in past years opened weekdays in the morning only. Plan your visit for the morning, and check the library calendar for the current timetable.
Can I go upstairs?
The visit is to the entrance hall and the courtyard, from where you see the upper gallery. The upper floors are library spaces for readers, so don't count on going up.
Which nearby monuments need tickets?
The university (€10), the cathedrals (€10 with audio guide), the Clerecía towers or Scala Coeli (€3.75), the Palacio de Monterrey (€7) and Casa Lis (€5). Several have free slots on certain days.
Are there free-entry times at the other monuments?
Yes: the university on Monday afternoons, the cathedrals on Tuesday afternoons, the Clerecía towers on Tuesday mornings and Casa Lis on Thursday mornings. Times change, so confirm locally.
